Team Magma vs Team Aqua

Series: EX

Release date: March 15, 2004

Cards: 95 (2 secret)

Set code: EX4

Every Trainer card built for this expansion was printed twice, once per side: Team Aqua Ball against Team Magma Ball, a Belt, a Conspirator, a Hideout and a Technical Machine for each, and then Aqua Energy and Magma Energy to match. Thirteen of the Pokémon signed up with a team carry two types at once, their own and Darkness, which is the mechanic the set introduced; the rest keep a single type. Their frames are decorated to suit, curved lines around the artwork window on the Magma cards and bubbles on the Aqua ones, with each side's logo printed under the attack box. A trainer's name comes back into the card name too, something English packs had not seen since the two Gym sets of 2000, so Team Aqua's Kyogre is a different card from a plain Kyogre. Seven Pokémon-ex close the numbered list, Hikaru Koike taking the three Hoenn starters and Ryo Ueda the three legendary beasts. Japan issued the same cards in October 2003 as the only subset its ADV era ever had. Team Magma vs Team Aqua (EX4) was released on March 15, 2004 in the EX series, with 95 cards plus 2 secret rares. Its most expensive card is Entei ex #91 (Rare Holo ex), at $301.55 (median of 8 sales over 30 days, October 1, 2026).
