Dragon

Series: EX

Release date: November 24, 2003

Cards: 97 (3 secret)

Set code: EX3

The EX Series had already stepped outside Hoenn, but never on this scale: Ampharos, Dragonite, Golem, Kingdra, Magcargo and Muk all arrive as Pokémon-ex here, six of the nine the set prints. The game still had no Dragon type in 2003, so its dragons are Colorless cards whose attacks ask for two different kinds of Energy at once, and that constraint is the deckbuilding idea the set was sold on. It is also the first EX expansion to print cards past its own total, a habit almost every set after it picked up. Rulers of the Heavens had reached Japan five months earlier with fifty four cards, and the English release arrived with two theme decks, FireFang and WindBlast. Arita's Charizard at 100, the Latias ex and Latios ex pair and Hikaru Koike's Rayquaza ex are what people go looking for. Dragon (EX3) was released on November 24, 2003 in the EX series, with 97 cards plus 3 secret rares. Its most expensive card is Rayquaza ex #97 (Rare Holo ex), at $394.18 (median of 14 sales over 30 days, September 30, 2026).
