Sandstorm

Series: EX

Release date: September 18, 2003

Cards: 100

Set code: EX2

Rare Candy is printed for the first time in this expansion: pick one of your Basic Pokémon in play, and a Stage 1 or Stage 2 sitting in your hand goes straight on top of it. Multi Energy arrives on the same checklist, providing every type but only one unit at a time. Sandstorm was also the first release handled by Pokémon USA to carry a Prerelease card of its own, a stamped Armaldo, and sanctioned Prerelease weekends became a fixture of the calendar from then on. Eevee and the five evolutions it had at the time all share the list, Flareon and Jolteon as holos near the front, Espeon, Umbreon and Vaporeon as plain rares further down. Seven Pokémon-ex take the last seven numbers, Hikaru Koike drawing Aerodactyl, Aggron, Gardevoir and Typhlosion and Ryo Ueda the other three. Caravan and Oasis were the theme decks, and the smaller Japanese parent, Miracle of the Desert, had come out five months earlier. Sandstorm (EX2) was released on September 18, 2003 in the EX series, with 100 cards. Its most expensive card is Raichu ex #98 (Rare Holo ex), at $243.60 (median of 6 sales over 30 days, October 1, 2026).
