folio.fyi is an independent price guide and collection tracker for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It follows every card and sealed product separately in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese, and it sells nothing: no listings, no affiliate prices, no sponsored figures. This page explains where each number comes from and how far to trust it.
Where prices come from
A price on folio.fyi is the median of real completed sales, never of asking prices. Sales are collected from public online marketplaces and auctions, then filtered twice: by language, because a French card does not sell for the price of its English counterpart, and by printing, so that a 1st Edition or a reverse holo never mixes with the regular card.
Before the median is taken, sales that clearly belong to something else are set aside: lots, other cards with the same name, prices far from all the others. Unlike an average, a median does not move when one buyer overpays.
The window behind each price
Each median covers the most recent window, 7, 30 or 90 days, that holds enough sales. A card that sells every day gets a 7-day median; a card that sells a few times a quarter gets a 90-day one. When even 90 days do not hold enough sales, the price comes from a longer period and is marked as indicative.
The card page always states the window behind the price, the number of sales it rests on and the date it was computed.
Cards that sell for very little
Most commons and uncommons sell for a few cents, too cheaply for their sales to be followed one by one. Their price is Cardmarket's monthly trend, shown with its month, and their page says so. A card with no recorded sale yet shows the same trend when Cardmarket has one, until its first sales come in.
These low-value cards show no graded prices and are not counted in the value of a portfolio: otherwise a collection of bulk would look far richer than it is.
Graded cards and population reports
Graded sales are kept apart by grader and grade: PSA, CGC, BGS, TAG, SGC and others, from grade 1 up to special tiers such as BGS Black Label or CGC Pristine 10. Each graded price is a median like the others and shows its number of sales; a price resting on one or two sales is marked “est.”.
Population reports come from the graders' public reports: how many copies were graded, and how many earned a 10. They are refreshed monthly. French pages also show two French graders, CCC and PCA.
Sealed products
Booster boxes, Elite Trainer Boxes, tins and other sealed products are priced the same way, from completed sales of sealed items. Sales that do not match the product, such as lots or single packs, are set aside. A product that rarely sells may show a price resting on few sales, marked as an estimate, or no price at all.
Currencies and freshness
Prices are stored in euros and shown in your currency, converted at a recent exchange rate. The most traded cards are recalculated almost every day, rarer cards as their sales come in. Every price carries the date it was computed.
The catalog
Card lists, numbers, rarities and release dates follow the official lists published in each region, checked against collectors' references. Each language has its own catalog, with its own names, numbering and dates: a set can come out months apart in Japan and in Europe.
Species pages count each card once, even when it was printed in several languages; 1st Edition and Shadowless reprints are counted with their regular print.
What the prices are not
A price here estimates what a card sold for recently. It is not an offer to buy or sell, nor the valuation of a specific copy: condition, centering and demand can move a single copy well away from the median.
When a card has too few sales for an honest figure, folio.fyi shows no price rather than a guess.
