Jungle

Series: Base

Release date: June 16, 1999

Cards: 64

Set code: BASE2

Sixty four numbers, and only one of them is not a Pokémon: Poké Ball closes the checklist, with no Energy card printed anywhere in the set. Base Set had carried no expansion symbol whatsoever, so the small flower stamped on these cards is the first set mark the English game used. Wizards filled the list with Kanto Pokémon that Base Set had skipped, Snorlax, Scyther, Kangaskhan, Mr. Mime and Pinsir among them, and gave Eevee its first card alongside Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon. Ken Sugimori's Snorlax and Scyther and Mitsuhiro Arita's Wigglytuff and Clefable are the holos most often asked for, and Power Reserve and Water Blast were the two theme decks. Australian unlimited packaging printed the word Pokémon in red rather than yellow, a measure aimed at counterfeiters. Japan had sold the same expansion in March 1997 at forty eight cards, more than two years before the English printing. Jungle (BASE2) was released on June 16, 1999 in the Base series, with 64 cards. Its most expensive card is Snorlax #11 (Rare Holo), at $65.02 (median of 24 sales over 7 days, September 30, 2026). A sealed booster box sells for $16,464.46 (median of 3 sales over 30 days, June 23, 2026).

Why do some Jungle holofoils show no set symbol?

A large Unlimited print run of the Jungle holofoil rares came off a black plate on which the flower symbol had been left out of the design, so those copies show no set symbol at all. The fault is recorded on the Unlimited edition holofoils, and it is a printing error rather than a separate edition of the set.
