Three sixty card decks, one for each Kalos first partner, and no booster pack in the standard editions. Fairy becomes the eleventh type in the card game here, the first new one since Dragon the year before, and Basic Fairy Energy joins as the ninth Energy card. Only three cards actually carry the new type: Snubbull, Granbull and Swirlix. A rule changes with this set as well, and the game has kept it since: the player who goes first cannot attack on their first turn. Japan sold the material as two parallel deck kits, a standard Beginning Set and a Beginning Set for Girls, sharing one numbering and one set symbol between them. Deluxe versions followed there a week later with no extra cards, while the English deluxe decks each added a Black & White booster instead. Japan split the material between two boxes, the Beginning Set and a Beginning Set for Girls, and gave each its own Furfrou, one untrimmed and one wearing the Heart Trim. The two boxes already shared a single run of 39 numbers, so those two Furfrou sit at 32 and 33 with two different illustrations by 5ban Graphics, and the international release kept the numbering as it stood.
