McDonald's has given away official Pokémon cards since 2002. In Japan, 101 cards from January 2002 to August 2025: a 30-card Minimum Pack sold in its restaurants, Happy Set promos in ten campaigns up to 2014, and a burger Pikachu with five reprints in 2025. In the West, a Happy Meal set most years from June 2011 to June 2025, thirteen in all, first in North America, then also in Europe, Australia and other countries, plus two French sets of 40 cards. The last of them, Dragon Discovery, also ran in Hong Kong in Traditional Chinese, from June 6 to July 3, 2025.
As of September 24, 2026, no McDonald's Pokémon card giveaway has run in 2026 in Japan or the United States: Japan's Pokémon Happy Set of August 2026 came with toys and no cards. Most McDonald's cards sell for a few dollars; the main exception is Japan's 2002 Minimum Pack, whose Squirtle 007/018 sells for $1,566 raw over 9 real completed sales. They are official Pokémon cards, and our guide to real and fake McDonald's cards shows how to check one.

By campaign, as of the same date:
- Minimum Pack (2002): all 18 Pokémon are priced, $19.68 to $1,566 raw and $152 to $9,499 in PSA 10. The Energies have no recorded sale.
- Japanese Happy Set promos of 2002 to 2014: 53 of the 65 are priced, $2.97 to $88 raw, half of them under $10.50. Umbreon 025/P and most of the other 2002 promos have no recorded raw sale. In PSA 10, several promos of 2003 to 2007 have sold for four figures.
- Western sets of 2011 to 2021: mostly $2 to $12 raw (47 of the 52 priced English cards outside 2016), with the Europe-only 2016 set at $18.65 to $62.65. The 2021 prices do not separate the holo and non-holo prints.
- 2022 to 2025: no sale of a 2022 to 2024 English card is recorded yet; the 2025 Japanese cards sell for $3.34 to $23.12 raw.
Grading rarely pays for the Western cards or the 2025 Japanese ones: PSA's cheapest tier cost $59.99 a card on September 23, 2026, more than almost every Western McDonald's card is worth raw, and even the 2025 Pikachu only goes from $23.12 raw to $90.36 in PSA 10.
Japan, 2002 to 2025
2002: the Minimum Pack and the first Happy Set promos
From January 26 to February 24, 2002, anyone buying something at a McDonald's in Japan could also buy a Minimum Pack for ¥180 before tax: three Pokémon and three basic Energies, one of each holo, with paper damage counters and a paper coin, and buyers got a paper playmat for a short game under simplified rules. On weekends and holidays of the same weeks, Happy Sets came with one of five promos, 021 to 025/P, among them Umbreon 025/P. Nine more, 029 to 037/P, followed on weekends from May 25 to June 16, 2002, including Mew, Sneasel and Scizor.

Two Meloetta cards came with Happy Sets on July 28 and 29, 2012 (160 and 161/BW-P), and five cards from July 19 to 21, 2014: Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie, Pikachu and Hawlucha (061 to 065/XY-P), each with the McDonald's logo. Pikachu 064 was printed again for Daiichi Pan, Marumiya and a 2016 campaign without a logo, and Hawlucha 065 for Daiichi Pan, so only a copy with the McDonald's logo is the McDonald's card. No other Japanese McDonald's card came out for eleven years.

On August 9, 10 and 11, 2025, each Pokémon Happy Set came with two cards while supplies lasted: Pikachu 020/M-P, drawn for McDonald's with Pikachu reaching for a burger, and one of five reprints, Sprigatito 017, Fuecoco 018, Quaxly 019, Ralts 021 and Riolu 022/M-P. Sales were limited to five Happy Sets a person, yet on the first day McDonald's Japan said the cards had run out early at many restaurants, as resellers bought in bulk and meals were left or thrown away. It apologized on August 11 and promised stricter limits, sold the Happy Set from August 15 without cards and at three sets a group, and on August 20 dropped a One Piece Card Game Happy Set planned from August 29.
The Western Happy Meal sets, 2011 to 2025
2011 to 2019: one holo card with each Happy Meal
The Western McDonald's Collection started in North America on June 17, 2011: twelve reprints of recent cards, renumbered out of 12 with a McDonald's set symbol, one card with each Happy Meal and its toy. Every English card of 2011 to 2019 was a Confetti holo, the dotted foil that became McDonald's signature, though not its exclusive: Celebrations' Classic Collection of 2021 uses it too (see our guide to holo patterns). Some sets stayed regional. The 2013 set, Eevee and seven of its evolutions with Pikachu, Timburr, Scraggy and Zorua, ran only in France, and the 2016 set only in Europe. France also had its own 40-card sets in 2018 and 2019, sold in four-card packs, each card in non-holo and Confetti holo: 80 prints for a master set.
2021: the 25th anniversary set
From February 9, 2021, in 15 countries of the Americas, Europe and Australia, and none in Asia, Happy Meals came with a four-card pack from a 25-card set: Pikachu and the first partner Pokémon of eight generations, each printed non-holo and as a Confetti holo, one holo per pack, with a 25th anniversary logo on the art. In the United States the cards ran short as adults bought Happy Meals for them, and McDonald's asked restaurants to limit the number sold per customer.

The 2022 and 2023 sets, 15 cards each with six holos, came with Match Battle, a spinner and coin game comparing the cards' HP, height, weight and numbers. Dragon Discovery, the 2024 set, ran from December 4, 2024 in France to June 17, 2025 in the United Kingdom, and in the United States from January 21 to late February 2025: fifteen cards led by dragons, whose seven Scarlet & Violet reprints are the holos and eight Sword & Shield reprints the non-holo cards. In the United States, a Happy Meal bought in the McDonald's app also gave hourglasses in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Every card of each English set, with its price, is on the set's page: 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. France's own sets have theirs too: 2013, 2018 and 2019.
Hong Kong, 2025
From June 6 to July 3, 2025, McDonald's Hong Kong gave the Dragon Discovery cards in Traditional Chinese with its Happy Meals, with a book offered instead for those who preferred it. The cards are numbered as Traditional Chinese promos, 118 to 132/SV-P, the same fifteen Pokémon in the same order as the Western set, from Charizard 118 to Drampa 132. Other fast-food Pokémon promos in Traditional Chinese are in our Pizza Hut guide.
2026 so far: no Pokémon cards in Japan or the United States
Japan's Pokémon Summer Mac of 2026, for McDonald's Japan's 55th anniversary and Pokémon's 30th, ran from mid-July with Pokémon promotions across its menu and about 3,000 restaurants turned into Pokémon GO PokéStops; its Pokémon Happy Set, from August 7, came with toys and no card gift. In the United States, a Pokémon promotion reported in December 2025 for February 2026 did not run, and none had been announced as of September 24, 2026. In the United Kingdom, the cards given with McDonald's meals from March 17, 2026 are Iconic CARDS, McDonald's own collectible set, not Pokémon cards.
How to get McDonald's cards today
New cards come only with a campaign; everything above trades second-hand. The English cards and sealed Happy Meal packs sell through collectors and card shops; the Japanese promos trade mostly in Japan, through card shops and auction sites, and a proxy service can buy them from abroad, as our guide to buying Japanese cards from abroad explains. A sealed pack proves nothing on its own, and the 2025 Pikachu gets counterfeited: check any card worth more than a few dollars with our guide to real and fake McDonald's cards.
