Pokémon VS

Series: E-series

Release date: July 19, 2001

Cards: 141 (10 secret)

Set code: VS

This is the whole of the VS era, a single release with no English counterpart. It was not sold as boosters at all: each pack held a thirty-card half deck with a rules sheet, so two of them could be opened and played on the spot. Japanese cards took collection numbers for the first time here, ordered by the sequence in which a player meets the Gym Leaders of Gold and Silver, then the Elite Four, then Team Rocket, then the Champion. The back of the card changed to the design already in use abroad, and every copy was printed as a first edition. Special Conditions became a named class with this set, Burned among them, and Technical Machine cards arrived to lend a Pokémon an attack it does not otherwise have. A version sold only in cinemas showing the fourth film reached buyers twelve days before the shops, with a Rocket's Tyranitar and a Celebi coin found in nothing else. Pokémon VS (VS) was released on July 19, 2001 in the E-series, with 141 cards plus 10 secret rares. Its most expensive card is Karen's Umbreon (1st Edition) #91 (Rare Holo), at $1,443.77 (median of 5 sales over 30 days, October 1, 2026).
