How Many Packs Are in a Pokémon Booster Box? (36)

NeverLeaveMe·

An English Pokémon booster box, sold as a booster display, holds 36 packs: 360 cards, plus 36 basic Energy cards and 36 code cards. Its list price at Pokémon Center is $161.64, or $4.49 a pack, for Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution sets as of September 24, 2026.

Japanese boxes are smaller and depend on the product: 30 packs of 5 cards for a standard set, 20 for the 7-card sets and for the 6-card 30th CELEBRATION, 10 for a High Class Pack and 4 for the Deluxe box.

The English 30th Celebration set (September 16, 2026) has no booster box as of September 24, 2026; neither did Celebrations (2021). Its packs, 5 foil cards plus a foil basic Energy and a code card, come only inside other products; the largest, the Ultra-Premium Collection (November 6, 2026), holds 29 of them and a separate 3-card Classic Collection pack. Classic Collection cards also turn up in the ordinary packs: about 1 in 10 held one in early openings.

Each pack's contents, slot by slot, are in our guide to how many cards are in a Pokémon pack. Counted in cards, a standard Japanese box holds 150, a 7-card or Deluxe box 140, a 30th CELEBRATION box 120 (20 of them basic Energy) and a High Class box 100.

The Japanese product name does not tell you the box. 拡張パック (expansion pack) is printed on 30-pack boxes of 5-card packs, on the 20-pack Black Bolt, White Flare and 30th CELEBRATION boxes and on the 4-pack Deluxe; 強化拡張パック (enhanced expansion pack) on 30-pack boxes such as VMAX Rising and on the 20-pack Pokémon Card 151. Read the pack count on the box or the listing.

US list prices as of September 24, 2026: Pokémon Center's own prices for the sleeved booster, the Booster Bundle, its Elite Trainer Box and the displays; the MSRP (suggested retail price) for the standard Elite Trainer Box and for the Ultra-Premium Collection, out November 6, 2026.

At list price, a box saves nothing: a sleeved pack, a Booster Bundle and a display all come to $4.49 a pack. An Elite Trainer Box costs more per pack because the rest of its price buys sleeves, dice, Energy cards and a promo. Displays of Sword & Shield and older sets are still listed at $143.64 at Pokémon Center, the old $3.99 a pack. Stock at list price is often sold out: our guide to where to buy Pokémon cards covers the options.

In Japan, suggested retail prices with tax are ¥6,000 for a standard box (¥5,400 for sets released before May 2026), ¥5,800 for a 7-card or Deluxe box, ¥7,200 for 30th CELEBRATION and ¥5,500 for a High Class box, as of September 24, 2026. At that day's rate, a ¥200 pack of 5 cards costs about $1.27, against $4.49 for 10 cards in English.

The Enhanced Booster Display brought back the box topper, absent since EX Holon Phantoms (2006): the same 36 packs with a promo card added, at the same $161.64, first for Journey Together (March 2025) and then for Mega Evolution (September 2025). Europe also sells 18-pack half displays beside the 36-pack one; a Booster Bundle, at 6 packs, is not a half box.

The three 2026 English main sets sold within $18 of their list price, while the Mega Evolution and Phantasmal Flames boxes of late 2025 sold for 1.8 and 2.3 times it. The Japanese 30th CELEBRATION box, listed at ¥7,200 (about $46 at the September 24, 2026 rate), sold for $168. Before paying for a sealed box on the resale market, check its film and seams: see resealed Pokémon packs.

Sets with no booster box

English special sets usually get no booster box: their packs come only inside other products. Examples are Hidden Fates, Celebrations, Crown Zenith, Pokémon 151, Paldean Fates, Prismatic Evolutions, Black Bolt and White Flare, Ascended Heroes and 30th Celebration. For 30th Celebration, the English products that hold its packs are:

So a listing for an English "30th Celebration booster box" is not one of these: check whether it is the Japanese box (20 packs of 6 cards), a box in another language or loose packs. As of September 24, 2026, the English Elite Trainer Box sold for a median $158 (114 sales) against its $49.99 MSRP, and a loose pack for $17.87 (5 sales). The Japanese 30th CELEBRATION box is sold at Pokémon Center Online by lottery, at ¥7,200.

How the Japanese box changed

A standard Japanese box held 20 packs from Black Collection and White Collection (December 2010) through the XY sets (to June 2016), and has held 30 since Collection Sun and Collection Moon (December 9, 2016). Special boxes vary: the 2016 20th Anniversary box held 15 packs of 10 cards.

Some Japanese product pages used to promise at least one Super Rare or better in every 30-pack box, VMAX Rising (February 2020) and Silver Lance and Jet-Black Spirit (April 2021) among them. Later pages, such as those of Eevee Heroes (May 2021), Pokémon Card 151 (2023) and Storm Emeralda (July 2026), make no promise per box. Per-pack guarantees remain on some products: a Pikachu and a basic Energy in every 30th CELEBRATION pack, an Art Rare in every Deluxe pack.

The next English main set, Delta Reign, is due November 6, 2026; later dates are in Pokémon set release dates.
