Neo Revelation

Series: Neo

Release date: September 21, 2001

Cards: 64 (2 secret)

Set code: NEO3

Shining Pokémon begin here, two cards numbered beyond the printed count, Magikarp and Gyarados in the colours their shiny forms wear in Gold and Silver. Only one of each may go into a deck instead of the usual four, and between them their attacks ask for Energy of more than one kind, which is the trade the class was built on. This is also the first expansion Wizards of the Coast sold with no theme decks beside it, the company explaining afterwards that the earlier decks had sold badly and that shops had stopped carrying them. Ken Sugimori painted the two Shining cards and the three legendary beasts, and Kimiya Masago the Ho-oh, and those six are what the packs were opened for. In Japan the same set was the first The Pokémon Company published itself, and it had reached shops there roughly ten months before the English release. Neo Revelation (NEO3) was released on September 21, 2001 in the Neo series, with 64 cards plus 2 secret rares. Its most expensive card is Shining Gyarados #65 (Rare Shining), at $785.04 (median of 11 sales over 30 days, September 30, 2026).

No. Nine of its non holofoil rares are absent from that 57 card Japanese expansion: Celebi, Entei, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Raikou, Skarmory, Sneasel, Sudowoodo and Suicune. Each had appeared in Japan as an unnumbered promotional card, and folding them in is what makes the English list longer than the Japanese one.
