Pokémon Card Gym Promo Packs: What's Inside and How to Get One

Pokémon Card Gym promo packs are the prizes of the events held at the Pokémon Card Gyms, the card shops the publisher accredits across Japan: sealed packs of random promo cards, marked not for sale. As of September 30, 2026, each pack holds one card, entering a gym battle earns two packs and winning it one more, and the winner of a rock-paper-scissors game after the battle gets one more when nine or more players take part. From September 16, 2026 to January 31, 2027, one of the two entry packs is a 30th anniversary pack.

Since August 1, 2026 the gym pack has been MEGA wave 5: seven cards led by Mega Tatsugiri ex 139/M-P. The publisher changes the pack every three months, and the next wave is due on November 1, 2026. Since February 2014 the gyms have handed out 45 waves and the anniversary pack, 346 different numbered cards in all: every pack is listed below with its dates and numbers, followed by what the cards sell for.

What a gym event gives, as of September 30, 2026

In 2023 and until September 1, 2024, the packs rewarded placing more than playing: entering earned one pack, first place three more, second place two, third place one and the rock-paper-scissors winner three, with one card in each pack. A 2023 gym battle winner went home with four cards and an entrant with one. Since September 2, 2024, entering has earned two cards (two packs, or one two-card pack from August 2025 to July 2026) and first place one more; the second- and third-place prizes are gone. Announced on August 23, 2024 together with the My Gym register, and followed by stamps checked in with a QR code from March 2025, the change suggests the publisher now rewards regular attendance at a home shop more than results.

A gym is an independent shop that sells the card game and has registered with the publisher, which, unless it grants an exception, turns away shops without permanent battle tables seating at least 8, a sign visible from the street, a door open during business hours, posted hours and at least 10 opening hours a week, and shops that serve alcohol or allow smoking inside. Each gym sets its own formats and entry rules, and its events are listed in the publisher's event search. Entering takes a free Players Club account, registered with an email address, a mobile number that receives a verification text and a home address. The Mega Gallade ex Special Art Rare also needs identity verification with a My Number Card, Japan's resident ID card, by November 30, 2026, before it is mailed to the registered address.

MEGA wave 5 and the 30th anniversary pack

Each pack of either kind holds one card, drawn from seven. In wave 5, Wimpod and Tynamo come in new art, Lida is a new Supporter, and Patrat, Special Red Card and Boss's Orders are reprints of cards played in official tournaments. The seven cards of the anniversary pack are Pokémon of the 30th CELEBRATION set in art of their own, with a 30th anniversary logo in place of the gym logo.

The anniversary pack is also handed out at the 30th CELEBRATION EVENT, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba on October 25, 2026 and at Intex Osaka on October 31 and November 1, 2026, and the publisher plans to give it at anniversary events in the gyms from October 2026. The genuine Greninja ex 151/M-P carries its 30th anniversary logo on the left of the card: on September 28, 2026 the publisher corrected pictures on its anniversary sites that showed the logo on the right, and said no card printed that way exists.

Every Pokémon Card Gym promo pack, 2014 to 2026

Since the Sword & Shield pack of December 2019, each pack has held one card at random from its wave, except the entry packs of MEGA waves 1 to 4, which held two (for the packs sold in shops, see our guide to how many cards are in a Pokémon pack). Under Scarlet & Violet each wave came out on the release day of a main expansion; since August 2025 the waves change every three months. The cards carry a Pokémon Card Gym logo in the art, written in Japanese on the XY cards and in English letters from 2017, which sets them apart from other prints of the same Pokémon; the anniversary pack's cards carry a 30th anniversary logo instead. Before the first gym pack of February 2014, the Gym Challenge events had handed out seven similar packs, from February 2011 to April 2013.

XY packs 1 to 7 also held basic Energy cards, three types in each. Sword & Shield packs 2 to 8 each paired an Eevee with one or two of its evolutions, so the eight Eeveelutions of that series came one pack at a time from March 2020 to November 2021.

Other cards handed out at the gyms

Gym packs are not the only gym prizes. As of September 30, 2026:

• The Worlds Pikachu. The Japanese print of each year's Worlds Pikachu has gone to the players of most gym events: 120/SV-P from September 2, 2023 to February 29, 2024, 197/SV-P from September 2 to December 31, 2024, 291/SV-P from October 1, 2025 to January 31, 2026 and 133/M-P from June 20 to September 30, 2026. • Digital stamps. Since March 1, 2025, each gym event checked into with the event's QR code earns a stamp in the Players Club, up to four per half-year, and two or four stamps earn a promo collected at your My Gym, one of up to three shops you have played at in the past year. The rewards so far: Buddy-Buddy Poffin 237/SV-P and Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex 258/SV-P (March to August 2025), Night Stretcher 031/M-P and Latias ex 032/M-P (September 2025 to February 2026), Poké Pad 085/M-P and Mega Kangaskhan ex 086/M-P (March to August 2026), then the two cards in the table above. Before the stamps, First Entry Campaigns rewarded repeat visits to the same gym with Hawlucha 034/SV-P (2023), then Buddy-Buddy Poffin 150/SV-P, Miraidon 151/SV-P, Koraidon 152/SV-P and Noctowl 173/SV-P (2024). In 2016, a stamp campaign had already given Venusaur-EX 233/XY-P for three stamps from the same gym, one per visit between March 1 and May 31. • Winner cards. From September 2018 until the New Expansion Battle ended on May 31, 2025, its winners got a Supporter card with the gym logo and a number of its own, from Cynthia 266/SM-P to Iris's Fighting Spirit 269/SV-P. The 2015 Umbreon Night Battle gave All-Night Party 139/XY-P to every player and Umbreon 140/XY-P to its winners.

What gym promo cards are worth

Most gym cards sell for under $10 raw, and cards from the older packs generally fetch more. In real completed sales as of September 30, 2026, the middle raw price of the 59 XY-pack cards with a recorded sale is $16.17; for the 68 Scarlet & Violet pack cards it is $2.42, and none of them reaches $10. The dearest gym cards are winner prizes, not pack cards: the 2015 winner's Umbreon 140/XY-P below, and the Charizard VMAX 104/S-P won in a sealed tournament held at the gyms and Pokémon Centers in 2020, which sold for $9,853 est. in PSA 10 (1 sale).

How to get gym promo packs outside Japan

The publisher sells neither the packs nor their cards, but both trade second-hand. In Japan, card shops and online marketplaces sell them sealed and as singles; buyers abroad reach those through a proxy service, as our guide to buying Japanese cards from abroad explains, and some shops outside Japan, in the United States among them, list sealed packs of older waves. Sealed or not, check the number against the table above: a gym pack card has an XY-P, SM-P, S-P, SV-P or M-P number and the gym logo (a 30th anniversary logo on the anniversary pack's cards). Playing for them is open to visitors who can set up a Players Club account and enter an event at a gym, as described above. Outside Japan, Pokémon TCG Gyms in the Asia-Pacific region have handed out a Pikachu stamped with the Pokémon Game On! logo at their events since September 1, 2026, and events at mainland China's 30 Official Gyms, run by the company itself, give Simplified Chinese event packs. In the West, Play! Pokémon stores hand out Prize Packs; the program's rules for stores, revised on September 1, 2026, forbid them to sell those packs, or Play! Pokémon-stamped cards within three years of their copyright date, but the rules bind the stores, not the players.
