About this card
Hiromichi Sugiyama, who also signed Blastoise 36 and Feraligatr 46 in the same set, drew this Charizard in a flat glide with its jaws open and the tail flame streaming behind. Expedition holds three separate Charizard cards. This holofoil shares its artwork with the plain 40/165, while 39/165 is a different illustration that reached English players by way of the Japanese Pokémon-e Starter Deck. Burning Energy, its Poké-POWER, turns every basic Energy on your side of the table into Fire until the end of the turn, which is how a four Fire attack cost becomes payable with whatever you have attached.
