Legendary Collection

Series: Legendary Collection

Release date: May 24, 2002

Cards: 110

Set code: LC

Everything in this expansion is a reprint, drawn almost entirely from Base Set, Jungle, Fossil and Team Rocket, and no Japanese release corresponds to it. Two lasting ideas start here all the same: the reverse holofoil, a second version of a card carrying foil over the whole face except the illustration window, and the box topper, an oversized card sitting at the top of a booster box. The reverse pattern used in this set looks like small fireworks, and every card in the list has one. Wizards sold it in English alone and in unlimited alone, with two theme decks named Lava and Turmoil. It is the only expansion of its own series and it landed between Neo Destiny and Expedition, which makes it the last set printed on the frame the game had used since 1999. The licence passed to Nintendo the following year, so this is the close of a period rather than the opening of one. Legendary Collection (LC) was released on May 24, 2002 in the Legendary Collection series, with 110 cards. Its most expensive card is Moltres #30 (Rare), at $199.84 (median of 19 sales over 90 days, October 1, 2026).
