Expansion Pack

Series: Original Series

Release date: October 20, 1996

Cards: 102

Everything in the Pokémon Card Game begins with this expansion, put on sale in October 1996 next to a ready-made Starter Pack deck. The figure printed on each card is the Pokémon's National Pokédex entry rather than a place in a checklist, which is why Charizard reads 006 and Mewtwo 150. The earliest copies carry no rarity symbol at all, and they hold errors the later run corrected, among them a Venusaur given Pokédex number 68 instead of 3. Sixteen of the cards are holographic, including the Mitsuhiro Arita Charizard that English players would not meet until 1999, and Arita painted the wrapper as well. Creatures has since written that the first three expansions together account for all 151 Pokémon of the original games.
