Kangaskhan (Garura Parent/Child Tournament 1998)

About this card

Entry required a parent and a child playing as one team, which is why the prize is a Kangaskhan and not something rarer. Ken Sugimori paints the mother mid stride with the baby upright in her pouch, both picked out against a field of cosmos foil inside a gold border. The Pokédex line printed on the card says the young one barely leaves that pouch for its first three years, which here reads less like trivia than like the point. The gold border and the pair of stars in the corner are the marks Japanese tournament prizes carried through the late nineties.
