About this card
The trophy has changed subject: where the cards of the nineties put Pikachu on a podium, Ken Sugimori paints a boy in a backwards cap holding a gold medal against his chest. Clefairy, Growlithe, Marill, Doduo, Pikachu and a loose Poké Ball crowd in around him, against a blur of stadium light. The certificate underneath recognises him as champion of the official tournament Battle★Neo Spring Road, which ran as a set of regional conferences early in 2001. Each conference produced its own champion, and the national title was settled later, at a final in Tokyo.
