Johto returns here, in a release Japan issued as two collections, HeartGold and SoulSilver, at the head of its LEGEND era. Two kinds of card appear that had never existed before, and the first is the Pokémon Prime: a stronger version of an ordinary Pokémon, framed entirely in foil with its name in gold, a spiked edge around the picture and no Pokédex line, taking the place of the reverse holo in a booster. The second is the Pokémon LEGEND, printed across two cards that have to be put into play together and then count as one Pokémon. Both halves carry the same name, which caps a deck at two of each, and knocking one down costs its owner a single Prize card here: Ho-Oh and Lugia are the only Pokémon LEGEND ever printed that show one Pokémon, and the two-Prize penalty arrives only with the paired LEGEND of the following sets. The frame turned gold and silver at the same time, and the basic Energy cards were redrawn with a Johto Pokémon standing in silhouette behind each symbol, Celebi on Grass, Ho-Oh on Fire, Lugia on Water. It opens a series of four expansions that all appeared during 2010, with Call of Legends following in 2011 to close the era before Black & White.
