Pokémon Jungle

Series: Original Series

Release date: March 5, 1997

Cards: 48

Kanto's Safari Zone is where the second expansion is set, out in March 1997, and the list bears that out: Scyther, Pinsir, Kangaskhan and Tauros are all reserve catches in the first games. Forty-seven of its forty-eight cards are Pokémon, and the only other one is a Poké Ball, with no Energy printed anywhere in the set. Sixteen holographic cards close the run, among them the three Eevee evolutions Kagemaru Himeno painted and the sleeping Snorlax by Ken Sugimori. Every card here carries a rarity symbol, which is not true of the first expansion's earliest copies. The Japanese booster box carries an Exeggutor whose neck runs long enough that readers now compare it to the Alolan form, which arrived two decades later.
